A noticeable spike in readership of this blog Friday revealed that the attendants all used the search words "Brad Pitt in Fairhope."
I once posted on a mythical remake of Gone With the Wind, suggesting Pitt as a candidate for the role of Ashley Wilkes. I still think that's a pretty good idea. That mention of the actor was the only reason for those seeking information about Brad Pitt -- and possibly Angelina Jolie as well -- in Fairhope last week visited this blog.
Not knowing anything about whether or not the couple actually came to Fairhope (and not living anywhere near there any more) I made contact with a few who might know. Two out of three had heard nothing about it, but the third wrote, "Yes, he's here for the first Fairhope Film Festival and the rumor must be true, but I haven't seen the dude, but maybe I'll drop in on tonight's movie. He is probably here because the festival showed "Forgotten Coast" this afternoon at USABC, so, it's not really much of a stretch for him to come over from N.O. where he has a pad out on St. Charles."
Later the press got into the picture. Reporters sought out Pitt by following the leads they had gotten from others, but nobody had seen him.
If you came because you thought you'd learn more about Brad Pitt in Fairhope, I hate to disappoint you. If you know something I don't, please make a comment and enlighten me and my readers.

I heard they're looking for a house in Point Clear.
I am one of those that found your blog by searching for Brad...but I stayed and read most of your archives and forwarded a number of your posts to friends- and marked it to remember to return.
I live in Mobile but my family lives in Fairhope and they all think they have found the Mecca.
anonymous -- I'm glad they're happy! Having grown up there and returned after some 30 years away, I had trouble accepting the changes in Fairhope, as you will read as you delve into this blog.
I wrote a book about the Fairhope of my youth and its heritage as a utopian community of reform in the late 19th Century. Your parents and probably you would like it.
You can buy it at Page & Palette or amazon.com
Check out its website here.
Hope you enjoy exploring this blog, Brad Pitt or not.
OK! Magazine says Brad and Angelina moved to Smithville, TX, where Brad was making a movie, because they wanted a simple country town to raise their assortment of children in.
I think if that's so, it was probably the right decision.
In the Mobile Press Paper Sunday it said Brad Pitts got a house on Scene 98,in Point Clear,Fairhope,Al.My daughter moved there yesterday,Angel. It is Beautiful.
I heard it's the penthouse of the new condo owned by RSA, owners of Grand Hotel.
In the name of truth and justice, I have been researching the rumors as much as possible from my home in Hoboken, New Jersey. This include consulting with my realtor in Fairhope, who is as hip to what real estate has been bought and sold as anybody in that area and says if they even looked at anything in the area, she hasn't heard about it, and a check of the most recent newspaper coverage of all the rumors, and can report that they seem to be nothing more than that, rumors.
If anything happens, you'll find it here. Maybe not first, but you'll find it.
who really cares anyway? there's an important municipal election coming up this august which could determine fairhope's destiny--for better or worse!
As usual, there is a lot more interest in Brad and Angelina than in local politics. This blog is all but dried up but for hits from people looking for info on the golden couple and their new home in Fairhope. I have yet to see anyone come with the search words "municipal election in Fairhope."
Good luck with that.
